Digital Terrestrial Television
Digitising the analogue terrestrial network is a key project within the broader objective of establishing an information society. In this respect, Sentech is responsible for upgrading and building network infrastructure to ensure South Africa migrates to digital terrestrial television broadcasting within the timelines stipulated by Parliament, i.e. December 2013. The Regional Radio Conference of 2006 (RRC06) under the umbrella of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has agreed that as of 17 June 2015 member countries will no longer be required to protect the analogue services of neighbouring countries against interference. DTT will provide multi-platform viewing experience with access to more television programmes and enhanced services.
